abstract = {The 3D Tune-In (3DTI) project (http://www.3d-tune-in.eu) aims at using 3D sound, visuals and games to support people using hearing aid devices and educate others about hearing loss. Within the project the 3DTI Toolkit, a standard C++ library for audio spatialisation and simulation using speakers or headphones, has been developed. The toolkit allows development of highly realistic and immersive 3D audio simulations (both loudspeaker- and headphones-based), and simulation (within the virtual environment) of hearing aid devices and of different typologies of hearing loss. The 3DTI Toolkit can be, and has been, used to develop applications and games relating to hearing aid and hearing loss.},

abstract = {The manufacturing industry needs to adapt their product-services to meet customer requirements in todayrqs rapidly changing markets. This paper presents how technologies can support knowledge sharing and collaboration during product-service processes. This work was part of the European Union Use-it-Wisely project and summaries demonstration results from the project. Six cluster cases from different industry sectors (energy, machinery, space, office workplace, vehicles, and shipbuilding) were developing their tools and processes during the project. Based on the demonstration evaluations, it seems that the Use-it-Wisely project has enabled companies to improve their product-services by using interactive collaborative environments and new business models. Partici‐pants that took part in the demonstrations felt that the new approach makes usersrq work easier, provides competitive advantage, facilitates knowledge sharing and decision making, extends the efficient lifecycle of existing machinery and supports sustainable development.},

abstract = {This paper evaluates the use of the Delay Mirror (DM) in the 

dance studio. TheDMis a device that records a video stream which 

is rendered immediately on a large screen, but with a delay of a few seconds. A dancer can observe her own movements in the same way she would do so when looking at a normal mirror. However, the delay allows her to observe dynamic movements which cannot usually be observed other than in video.We evaluate whether this device can be useful in the context of a dance class, and whether it complements the normal mirror, while being less intrusive than a normal video recording which is recorded and then re-played, possibly interruptingworkflow. Qualitative evaluation was performed in the context of an advanced-level adult ballet course.},

abstract = {Developing generic competences in bachelor degrees is not an easy task. In order to get a successful result, all actors in the teaching-learning process must agree in several topics, as the definition of each competence or the best approach for learning and evaluation. For this reason, the point of view of the students should be considered. This paper presents this point of view of students from several Engineering Degrees about how some generic competences should be trained and how this is currently addressed. Besides, self-perception of proficiency level in these generic competences has been assessed. We have used a survey methodology and the obtained results allow us to narrow down the focus on the role of the degree in training competences and the need of assess student skills before changing the curriculum. In a future work, these results will be contrasted with teachersrq point of view in the framework of an overall research that is also briefly described.},

abstract = {Este trabajo recoge la motivación, metodología y primeros resultados de un proyecto de innovación educativa a dos años (2015-2017) que se está llevando a cabo en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación de la Universidad de Málaga. El objetivo fundamental del proyecto es diseñar y poner en marcha un itinerario para abordar el desarrollo de las competencias transversales a lo largo de los grados. Hasta la fecha, se han cruzado las competencias generales que la legislación vigente impone con otros marcos competenciales de especial interés, como ABET o Eur-Ace. Este cruce ha permitido seleccionar un conjunto de competencias con las que comen-zar a trabajar. El estudio de los marcos nos ha ayudado también a profundizar en la caracterización docente de cada una de ellas (resultados de aprendizaje, actividades formativas y actividades de evaluación), paso previo a establecer el orden temporal para su desarrollo. Las dificultades encontra-das en esta tarea nos han llevado a proponer un modelo de desarrollo de competencias transversales que, en fases futuras del proyecto, el profesorado usará para, coordinadamente, incorporar nuevas competencias transversales a su docencia o formalizar las que ya desarrolla.},

abstract = {El advenimiento y la consolidación del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior invita a docentes y estudiantes a aplicar nuevas metodologías que desplacen el foco de atención desde la enseñanza (docentes) hacia el aprendizaje (estudiantes), promoviendo nuevas interacciones y nuevos roles en el binomio enseñanza/aprendizaje. Según esto, se describe, en este artículo, una experiencia docente en la que el rol principal recae en los estudiantes, como protagonistas de su propio proceso de aprendizaje; mientras que el docente adopta un rol secundario desde una posición de guía o asesor. Los estudiantes se agrupan en torno a empresas ficticias y el docente juega el papel de cliente, con el que deben establecer una relación comercial y formal durante la impartición de la asignatura. Es en este nuevo escenario en el que se impulsan el desarrollo de una serie de competencias como son el liderazgo, el trabajo en equipo, el autoaprendizaje, o el establecimiento de un lenguaje formal entre empresas y cliente. Los resultados obtenidos son totalmente satisfactorios, demostrando los beneficios de trabajo en este nuevo escenario, simulado y con un ingente aumento en la motivación de los alumnos.},

abstract = {This paper describes a group activity to develop entrepreneurial skills within an engineering degree. Transferable skills such as creativity, self-learning, peer review and use of groupware are also reinforced using cooperative work techniques. The students work in teams to develop business plans in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The plans are based on ideas fully conceived by the students. The activity ends with a com-petition where the students also act as jury. The role of the teacher is that of a consultant to which the teams resort during the development of their busi-ness plans. The teacher helps with scheduling intermediate milestones and deliverables, making sure that work is progressing for all the teams; gives feedback on the generated documents; and is eventually part of the jury. When available, we have invited an external evaluator from the local ICT in-dustry to the jury panel. The evaluation of the activity shows a high level of motivation in our students, who usually get involved beyond what is asked of them, despite the additional workload within an already tight semester. 

En este trabajo describe una actividad grupal para el desarrollo la compe-tencia emprendedora como materia transversal en un grado de ingeniería electrónica. A través de esta actividad también se refuerzan las competencias de creatividad, auto aprendizaje, evaluación entre pares y de trabajo en gru-po utilizando técnicas de trabajo cooperativo. La actividad consiste, básica-mente, en el planteamiento y defensa de un proyecto emprendedor relaciona-do con las Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones (TIC) que cada equipo propone y desarrolla por sí mismo. Culmina en una presenta-ción-concurso competitivo donde cada alumno es jurado de los proyectos de los demás grupos. Bajo este esquema, el profesorado actúa como un consul-tor al que los equipos recurren para resolución de sus problemas o dudas. Además, debe establecer también la planificación temporal incluyendo al-gunas entregas parciales que aseguren la no paralización de ningún equipo, debe evaluar, de forma no necesariamente sumativa, la documentación final del plan de negocio que genere cada equipo, y podrá hacer también de jura-do, si es posible con otros jurados externos a la clase (preferiblemente de nuestro sector empresarial). La evaluación de la actividad muestra un alto nivel de interés despertado en los alumnos que suelen involucrarse más allá de lo que se les pide, pese a la carga adicional de trabajo que representa.},

abstract = {During the lifecycle of many industrial products, different services are applied over the different parts or sub-assemblies of the product geometry, from design and validation tests to maintenance operations. After a service is run, a decision-making process usually starts from the analysis of the service results. This paper presents a tool for analysis and decision-making based on service results linked to the geometry of complex products organized in a hierarchy of sub-assemblies. The tool is based in the use of separate models for the product, the services and the analysis of results, and the generation of different views of the models including a virtual representation of the product with overlapped service result information. The virtual representation of the product consists in a render of a 3D scan of the product where techniques to handle visual occlusion between parts are applied. An application case is presented for collaborative discussion of inspection results of a power plant steam turbine.},

abstract = {RESTART is a widely applicable accelerated simulation technique that allows the evaluation of extremely low probabilities. In this method, a number of simulation retrials are performed when the process enters regions of the state space where the chance of occurrence of a rare event of interest is higher. In previous papers the importance of a state, which is a measure of the chance of occurrence of the rare event when the state occurs, was defined. The mentioned regions should be defined by means of the importance of the states but, due to the difficulty of knowing them, they are defined by means of another function of the states called the importance function. The choice by the user of an importance function which reflects the importance of the states is crucial for the effective application of RESTART. The problem of the previous definition of importance is that the importance of a state does not only depend on the state itself but also on the chosen importance function. It produces a loop between importance and importance function which can make more difficult to find an appropriate importance function. The paper presents a new concept of importance which does not depend on the chosen importance function. It avoids the above mentioned loop and can make easier to find an appropriate importance function. The paper also presents the application of this new concept of importance to an M/M/1 queue and the work progress of its application to a two-queue Jackson tandem network.},

abstract = {Se describe una experiencia docente en la que se persigue que el alumnado empatice con el docente. Para ello se propone a los estudiantes realizar algunas de las tareas propias del profesor. Se usa la metodología de aprendizaje colaborativo, el puzle, con el objeto de desarrollar la competencia trabajo en grupo. Aunque en general los resultados son positivos, se discute que son sólo un primer paso para el correcto desarrollo de esta compleja competencia. abstract = {This paper presents an implementation based on the Virtual Reality Peripheral Network (VRPN 7.18) to handle connectivity between Virtual Reality (VR) applications and SensAble Technology Phantom Haptic Devices using the OpenHaptics 3.0 Haptic Library Application Programmable Interface (HLAPI). VRPN offers a client-server based architecture to support network transparent connectivity between VR applications and a set of physical interaction devices. VRPN suggests a set of classes to handle various physical devices types. Originally, the haptic rendering was supported by the obsolete GHOST API, provided by SensAble Technologies, within a specific VRPN class dedicated to Phantom devices. The proposed implementation consists of a) new classes that support haptic device server and VR applications connectivity, allow to specify arbitrary 3D object information to haptically render geometries and report applied force, angle at contact point, Surface Contact Point (SCP) and Depth of Penetration (DOP); and b) an upgrade of the Phantom dedicated VRPN class to handle haptic rendering using OpenHaptics HLAPI functionalities to manage device state and forces calculation. Moreover, the integration of the HLAPI implementation in VRPN remains respectful to VRPN inheritance and architecture standards: Tracker and Button classes remain unchanged. Copyright 2012 ACM.},
